Currently, I'm working on a political thriller called "THE SENATOR" it's about a young state senator who's assistant says it should of been him in office, not him. He threatens to kill him if he doesn't resigned his duties as senator, and soon. Jerry (the senator) shakes it off, but gets a rude awakening when the President of the U.S is shot down at a press conference. Jerry is knocked out cold in the mayhem, and wakes up with the gun in his hand. Now, Jerry has to stop this madman before his second attempt finishes the job...So, does it sound good? Remember, I'm a newbie.

I agree with Roger Kimberly, putting it out there to us (and the entire world via the internet) that you are "not good" is terrible. No one needs to hear that, ecspecially yourself. If you feel that way about your writing, then try to figure out what it is that makes you feel that way and work on it.
As for your story, if it sounds good to YOU, then......
Self doubt is a very popular feeling - we all do it. But never let anybody hear you say this. And this goes with anything and everything. Just to be giving something a go is a good point. Stick to that and you'll always better yourself.
Kimberly -- NEVER admit you're no good. That's being too honest. If you were REALLY no good you could get a lot of work as a screenwriter. People who really can't write (but give good meeting) get stuff sold all the time -- where do you think all those sucky movies come from?
No idea. I live in a very remote area and have always wondered about the benefits of online courses. Anyone have any experiences with something like that?
I know that Gotham Writers Workshop has online classes.
In fact, I was hoping that someone here has had a GWW experience. I'm thinking of taking their advanced class. It's not too expensive-- $395 or something.
I honestly never knew how hard and complicated screenwriting was until recently. Im a film student at the International Academy of Film and Television and we were tasked to go over Robert Mckee’s Story: Substance, Structure, Style and The Principles of Screenwriting book. I’m not even half way through it but its obvious what he wants to convey. The essence of a good story is unchanging and universal. These well crafted stories, the ones with multiple layers that follow a proven classical guidelines for story telling are products of an age-old craft. A craft that has been developed step by step for ages. Definitely not a walk in the park!
